Club Locus: Live Music

Locus Club Locus? Never heard of it? This venue probably the closest thing Rexburg has to a claim to fame. Live music is played here on a regular basis, featuring mostly indie and local groups.

J Wride, for example, will be playing here July 9, 2010. If you want the most up to date schedule, here it is!

I’ve never been there. Have you? Tell us what we need to know about it in the comments!

I’ll post the map as soon as the owner gets back to me about the address.

Craze Fun Zone

craze fun zone miniGolf Go just around the corner from Old Fongs to find Laser tag, blacklight golf, and food… it’s a date or FHE just waiting to happen! Read the full post to find out about pricing and group discounts.

When your date or FHE group wants an active activity (huh, imagine that!) Craze Fun Zone has just about the largest laser tag arena you’ll find anywhere nearby. At $5 a game in a 4,000 sq ft., apocalyptically themed arena, you’d expect long wait times, especially on Friday nights. Not so! 30 vests and a new game every 15 minutes ensure you’ll make it in the next round.
craze fun zone lazer tag
Best not to open a date with this, as you may come out sweaty.

For a more subdued time, you can go to their miniature golf course. The room is air-conditioned (Thank heavens!), so you won’t be left sweating after 9 holes under the sun! (well, blacklight, anyways)

I’ve never been to the cafe, so I can’t say anything about the food. Prices on their online menu don’t seem too horrifying, but portions may or may not reflect the value.

Speaking of prices, you can get some pretty good deals here. Here’s the pricing info copied directly from their site.

Hobbytown USA (In Idaho Falls)

Hobbytown USA RC Car Wow. This place is awesome!

I really couldn't say anything else after walking around this store. The little kid inside me just didn't want to leave!

Do you want to build a custom teddy bear for your significant other… and without paying an arm and a leg? Do you remember back when you wanted to build model rockets and see them soar? Or when you loved playing with train sets?

You’ve come to the right place.

RC cars and helicopters, tabletop roleplaying/wargaming sets, and a million other odds and ends... it's the store for the adult who wants to be a kid.

Pickett’s Bambino in Rexburg

Bambinos FrontEDIT: Pickett's Bambino in Rexburg went out of business in 2011.

Pickett’s Bambino just opened recently amidst great fanfare; student’s  who are sick of the same old, same old of fast food and pizza have new variety.

Although the menu isn’t as extensive as their store in Rigby, they still offer some great food. It’s about $2 for regular bambinos, $3 for premium. We’ll post a menu later detailing what’s on there.

Conveniently located across the street from Porter Park and just down the road from Horkley’s, this little treasure is well within walking distance of campus.

ATVs at the Sand Dunes

Glamis Sand Rail Roost So you’ve seen the awesomeness that is the dunes. You’ve toasted s’mores, you’ve seen the meteor showers, and you’ve even just about broken your neck snowboarding down the sand.

It’s time to take it to the next level.

If clips from Napoleon Dynamite haven’t scared you off, ATVs let you go over ground that would doom a car to rusting in a sand pit. You can rent ATVs from several places near the sand dunes.

The first is from http://www.duneexcursions.com/. Their prices range from $30-$40 an hour, though there are discounts for half-day and whole-day pricing.

The second is from http://www.pmspolaris.com/dunerentals.htm. Funny name notwithstanding, you can buy (or rent) helmets, gloves, and goggles for decent prices. They rent ATVs for anywhere between $35-$105 an hour (Depending on the model)

As for where to go ATVing, Cherry Choke, Devil’s Dune, and the Dead Horse Bowl make for some great deep dune excursions.

Have you ever gone ATVing there? How was it? Share your experiences in the comments!

Sno-Cone Shacks

Every Saturday morning, I play Ultimate Frisbee with my friends. Sometimes we play for up to 3 hours!

At the end of all that, we need a way to cool down and congratulate each other on some well-played games. Where do we go? Snoasis!

There are other sno-cone shacks in Rexburg, but my favorite is Snoasis. Conveniently located next to Taco Bell, it’s hard to miss this little gem in Rexburg.

These sno-cones are never chunky or icy. Always perfect. A huge variety of flavors is available. What draws my wife and me in is that you don’t pay by the flavor, like you do at other places. You pay by the size, and whether it’s the itsy bitsy or the gargantuan giants you can’t finish, you’ll always find the size that’s right for you.

Not to mention ice cream on the bottom or cream on the top for cheap. Never hurts to have a nice addition to an already awesome sno-cone!

Is there another Sno-Cone place you like? Recommend other sno-cone places in the comments section, and we'll post articles about them!

St. Anthony Sand Dunes

If you like bonfires, 4-wheeling, and meteor showers, this is the place to go. This little desert oasis is home to all sorts of fun happenings in the Rexburg area!

Bonfires are classic entertainment. Making s'mores, counting stars, telling campfire stories... you can do all sorts of things when you get the fire going. Though the legality is questionable (at the very least!), sobe bombs are way awesome for putting a bang into your night!

In August, the Perseid Meteor Shower is gorgeous from here. Several other showers occur from time to time.

ATV riding is another popular thing to do. Read this article for more information on that.

One thing a friend of mine likes to do is to go snowboarding down the dunes. With or without snow!

Got something else you like to do at the dunes? Post them for us here in the comments!
